Description
The Colt 1911 Competition is built for shooters who want a purpose-configured 1911 without assembling one from parts. It suits competitive shooters and serious range users who need a pistol that can perform in timed courses or precision drills without significant modification out of the box.
The barrel is a National Match stainless steel unit, which is held to tighter dimensional tolerances than a standard service barrel. That matters because consistent barrel-to-bushing fit reduces shot-to-shot variation at distance — the difference is most apparent when shooting at longer pistol ranges where group size becomes a practical concern rather than a theoretical one.
The Series 70 firing system omits the firing pin block found in Series 80 designs. The result is a shorter, cleaner trigger pull with less mechanical travel, which competition shooters generally prefer for precise trigger control. The trade-off is that the design relies on a half-cock notch and grip safety rather than an additional passive drop safety.
A dual recoil spring arrangement distributes recoil force across two springs rather than one, which softens the return stroke of the slide and can reduce felt muzzle rise on follow-up shots. The ambidextrous thumb safety paired with the grip safety addresses both right- and left-handed competitors without requiring any modification.
The Novak adjustable fiber optic sights are a significant practical advantage for timed competition: the fiber optic front gathers ambient light for fast target acquisition, while the adjustable rear lets the shooter dial in point of impact for a specific load rather than accepting a fixed zero. The Blue Titanium Cerakote frame finish over a serrated stainless slide offers corrosion resistance and a distinct two-tone appearance, and the G10 checkered grips provide a consistent grip surface regardless of weather or hand condition.
