Description
The Colt 1911 Competition is built for shooters who want a serious range and competition platform without rebuilding a standard pistol from the ground up. It starts from the Government-length 1911 frame—familiar to anyone who has spent time with the pattern—and layers on components that address the areas where a stock 1911 typically needs attention before it’s truly competition-ready.
The National Match barrel is fitted to tighter specifications than a standard production barrel, which reduces play between the barrel and bushing at lockup and translates directly to more consistent shot-to-shot accuracy. The dual recoil spring system spreads the work of cycling over a longer stroke, which softens the felt snap of the slide returning to battery—useful when running a full-length course of fire and trying to stay on target between shots.
The slide is cut for Colt’s optics plate system rather than milled for a single fixed footprint, so you can mount a red dot without committing to one manufacturer’s pattern at the time of purchase. When you do run iron sights, the Novak adjustable fiber optic rear gives you a precise elevation reference that you can dial for a specific load rather than holding over. The front sight draws the eye quickly in variable light conditions.
Grip panels are checkered G10 in blue, which provides consistent purchase even with wet or sweaty hands and resists compression and wear better than polymer alternatives. The ambidextrous thumb safety and grip safety together allow a full firing grip to disengage both without repositioning, which matters when split times are being measured. Frame and slide are finished in stainless, keeping the pistol serviceable in field conditions without the maintenance overhead of a blued surface.
