Description
The Night Commander is Colt’s answer to a compact-carry 1911 that doesn’t force you to choose between a manageable footprint and serious terminal performance. It sits in the same single-action operating tradition as the full-size Government Model, which means the trigger break and manual-of-arms will be immediately familiar to any shooter who has spent time behind a 1911 — there is no relearning involved, only a slightly shorter sight radius to account for.
The 4.25-inch barrel puts it in Commander territory, a length that shaves enough overall size for concealed carry without the sharper felt recoil and velocity loss that come with the Officer’s shorter tube. That balance makes it a practical choice for everyday carry and range use on the same platform.
The slide comes optics-ready from the factory, milled to accept a direct-mount red dot without requiring a gunsmith or a riser adapter. That cuts down on overall height over bore and keeps the mount rigid. The night sights are already installed for iron-sight use and serve as a usable backup once an optic goes on, so the pistol is immediately functional in low light regardless of whether you run glass. The thumb safety and 8+1 capacity round out a package built around the proven 1911 architecture with the practical additions a working carry gun actually needs.
