Description

The DD4 RIII Upper Receiver Group is aimed at shooters who want a capable, range-ready AR-15 platform without assembling one from separate components. At 16 inches, the Cold Hammer Forged Government Profile barrel is long enough to extract full velocity from 5.56 NATO ammunition while staying practical for general-purpose use. Cold hammer forging densifies the steel along the bore, which contributes to consistent accuracy and extended service life under sustained fire.

Daniel Defense chose a mid-length gas system for this build rather than a carbine-length one. The additional dwell time a mid-length port provides translates to a less abrupt recoil cycle — the bolt carrier is pushed back at a lower pressure peak, which makes rapid, accurate follow-up shots easier to manage. The 1-in-7-inch twist rate stabilizes heavier projectiles reliably, from 62-grain M855 through 77-grain open-tip match bullets, so the platform accommodates a wide ammunition selection without compromising stability.

The RIS III 12.5-inch handguard is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and uses M-LOK attachment points rather than a continuous Picatinny top rail, which reduces overall weight without sacrificing the ability to mount lights, grips, or other accessories where they are actually needed. The GRIP-N-RIP Charging Handle, machined from 7075-T6 and 6061-T6 aluminum, provides more purchase than a standard mil-spec handle, particularly when running suppressed or with gloves. The upper receiver itself is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with M4 feed ramps and Type III hard coat anodizing. The FDE finish is applied to the handguard and upper receiver, and no sights are included, leaving the optic or iron sight choice to the individual shooter.
