Description
The MK18 Pistol is Daniel Defense’s answer to the short-barreled carbine configuration long favored in close-quarters roles by law enforcement and special operations units. It is built around the same RIS II quad-rail handguard that Daniel Defense supplies to USSOCOM, a full-length platform that maintains consistent mounting geometry for lights, lasers, and other accessories regardless of how the firearm is configured.
The 10.3-inch chrome moly vanadium barrel is cold hammer forged and chrome lined, a process that work-hardens the bore for increased wear resistance and makes cleaning more straightforward after sustained use. It runs a carbine-length direct impingement gas system, which at this barrel length means the gas port is positioned closer to the muzzle than on a mid-length setup — the tradeoff being a slightly sharper impulse in exchange for reliable cycling across a wide range of ammunition and suppressor configurations. The 1-in-7 twist rate stabilizes heavier projectiles effectively, making it well-suited to 62-grain and 77-grain loads commonly chosen for short-barrel platforms.
The lower receiver is CNC-machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with an enhanced flared magazine well and a rear QD swivel point. The ambidextrous safety selector and the GRIP-N-RIP charging handle — itself machined from aluminum with heavy-duty stainless roll pins — both accommodate left- and right-handed operation without modification. The SB Tactical SBA3 brace offers five positions of adjustment and an integral ambidextrous QD attachment point, keeping the overall package compact. Furniture and receiver components are finished in Flat Dark Earth, matched throughout to Daniel Defense’s specification for this variant.
