Description

The Daniel Defense DDM4 Rail 15.0 is a rifle-length free-floating handguard built for shooters who want to add or replace a rail system on a mid-to-full-length AR-15 build without compromising the rigidity and consistent barrel harmonics that a free-float design provides. Because the handguard makes no contact with the barrel after installation, it removes the variable pressure that a traditional drop-in handguard would introduce, allowing the barrel to vibrate consistently from shot to shot and contributing to more repeatable groupings.

The one-piece construction uses aircraft-grade 6061-T6 aluminum finished in Military Specification Type III Hard Coat Anodizing — a process that builds a harder oxide layer into the surface of the aluminum itself rather than sitting on top of it, which resists wear at attachment points and contact surfaces rather than simply delaying it. The steel barrel nut works with Daniel Defense’s patented Bolt-Up System, which secures the handguard to the upper receiver without requiring a proprietary torque spec to achieve proper indexing — a wrench and allen key are included in the box along with the bolt-up plate, screws, and three Santoprene rail ladders.

The continuous Picatinny rail along the top of the handguard keeps the optic mounting surface aligned with the upper receiver rail, which matters when co-witnessing iron sights or running a magnified optic with an offset red dot. Limited-rotation QD sling attachment points sit at the front and rear of both sides, positioning the swivel where it can’t spin freely and tangle under the handguard during transitions. The 15.0 is sized for barrels 16 inches and longer running a rifle-length or shorter gas system, and it requires a low-profile gas block for proper fitment. At 14.8 oz for the rail alone, the weight stays reasonable for a handguard at this length.
