The DDM4 V7 is Daniel Defense’s answer to a general-purpose semi-automatic rifle that transitions cleanly between range work, home defense, and field use. It is built for shooters who want a factory configuration they can trust without immediate modifications, and the California-compliant variant delivers the same core platform with a ten-round magazine to satisfy state capacity limits.

The rifle chambers .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO interchangeably, which matters for ammunition flexibility — the hotter 5.56 pressure curve is safe in a true 5.56-rated chamber, and you are not locked into one or the other. The 1-in-7 inch twist rate is optimized for heavier projectiles in the 62–77 grain range, stabilizing them fully at typical engagement distances; lighter 55-grain loads will also run reliably, though the twist is not tailored to them. Shooters building a load-specific precision role around 55-grain FMJ would want to keep that trade-off in mind.

Daniel Defense equips the V7 with their proprietary MFR handguard, a free-floated design that eliminates barrel contact so that a sling or bipod attachment does not translate tension into point-of-impact shift. The rifle ships without sights, which is a deliberate choice: the flat-top upper and handguard rail surface are intended for the shooter to mount the optic or iron sights that suit their use case rather than paying for hardware they will remove. The Milspec+ designation refers to Daniel Defense’s practice of building to military specification dimensions while applying additional quality-control steps in barrel and bolt carrier group production.
