The DDM4 V7 is Daniel Defense’s general-purpose AR-15 platform, suited to shooters who want a professionally built rifle they can run hard without babysitting — whether that means a range rifle, a hunting tool, or a home-defense firearm that gets used instead of admired. It is not a lightweight competition build or a precision bench gun; it is a durable, straightforward fighting rifle with thoughtful ergonomics.

The barrel is Cold Hammer Forged from chrome moly vanadium steel and chrome lined, which means it resists wear and corrosion through sustained fire better than a non-lined barrel of equivalent steel. The government profile keeps weight manageable without sacrificing the heat capacity you lose with a pencil-weight contour. The 1-in-7 twist rate stabilizes heavier projectiles — 62-grain and above — reliably, making it well-matched to M855 and similar loads, though it will also run lighter 55-grain ammunition without issue. A faster twist like 1-in-7 does give you more options at the heavier end of the 5.56 spectrum than a slower 1-in-9 barrel would.

Daniel Defense fitted this rifle with a mid-length gas system rather than a carbine-length arrangement. The longer gas port dwell time at mid-length reduces the velocity at which gas enters the carrier, which softens the felt impulse and puts less stress on the bolt and buffer components over time compared to a carbine gas system on the same 16-inch barrel. The pinned, low-profile gas block sits under the MFR 15.0 handguard — a full-length M-LOK rail machined from 6061-T6 aluminum that leaves the top Picatinny rail unobstructed for any optic you choose to mount. No sights are included, which reflects the reality that most buyers are mounting an optic anyway. The ambidextrous GRIP-N-RIP charging handle and ambidextrous safety make the rifle genuinely usable left- or right-handed without modification.
