Description
The MK18 Pistol is Daniel Defense’s compact AR-15-format platform built around the 10.3-inch barrel length that has become the standard for close-quarters work in special operations and law enforcement. If your priorities are maneuverability in tight spaces without giving up the terminal performance of 5.56 NATO, this is the configuration that addresses that trade-off directly.
The barrel is Cold Hammer Forged from Chrome Moly Vanadium steel and chrome-lined — a process that work-hardens the bore surface for extended service life and resistance to heat and corrosion. A carbine-length direct-impingement gas system is fitted to this barrel length, which keeps the operating pressure and dwell time tuned appropriately for the short gas port-to-muzzle distance. The 1-in-7 twist rate stabilizes heavier projectiles reliably — it handles 62-grain and 77-grain loads without complaint, though it is equally at home with standard 55-grain ammunition.
The RIS II handguard is the same Picatinny quad-rail unit Daniel Defense supplies to USSOCOM, machined from 6061-T6 aluminum with a Type III hard coat anodize. It attaches to the upper receiver via Daniel Defense’s 6-bolt Bolt-Up System, eliminating barrel nut movement and keeping the handguard rigid under sustained use. Both the upper and lower receivers are CNC-machined from 7075-T6 aluminum to Mil-Spec dimensions. The ambidextrous safety selector and the GRIP-N-RIP charging handle — independently ambidextrous in its latch design — make the controls accessible without reconfiguring the firearm. The SB Tactical SBA3 brace provides five positions of adjustment and includes integrated QD sling attachment points. The package ships with a Daniel Defense impact case.
