Description

The Daniel Defense Tornado pistol grip is a straightforward upgrade for AR-15 shooters who find the standard A2 grip uncomfortable over extended sessions. The core design decision here is grip angle: Daniel Defense borrowed the rake of the 1911 pistol, which places the wrist in a more neutral position and reduces the cocked-wrist feeling that the more vertical A2 geometry can produce during sustained fire or close-quarters handling.

The grip is built from polymer with a soft-touch overmolding section along the contact surfaces. That rubber layer maintains traction when hands are wet or sweaty without requiring aggressive texture that wears on bare skin over time. The Tornado finish gives the grip a distinct look that pairs well with other Daniel Defense Tornado-colored furniture if you are building a coordinated setup.

Where this grip diverges from a standard drop-in pistol grip is the integral oversized trigger guard. It bridges the gap between the grip frame and the lower receiver — a gap on conventional setups that can dig into the middle finger during a tight firing grip. The enlarged opening also accommodates gloved hands without forcing the shooter to modify their grip. Because the trigger guard is molded into the grip body rather than pinned separately, installation requires only the included screw and washer, and there is no roll pin involved, which removes the risk of damaging the lower receiver’s trigger guard ears during fitment. The tradeoff is that this one-piece design is not compatible with lower receivers that have a fixed, non-removable integral trigger guard — in that case the lower’s own guard and the grip’s guard would conflict.
