Federal’s Fusion line was purpose-built for deer hunting from the ground up, and the 180-grain load in .308 Winchester represents the heavier end of that purpose—suited to hunters who want a bullet that holds together through a shoulder, a heavy rib cage, or the dense muscle of a large-bodied whitetail or mule deer at moderate to extended range.

The core technology behind Fusion is an electrochemical bonding process that fuses the copper jacket directly to the lead core at the molecular level, rather than mechanically joining the two as a conventional cup-and-core bullet does. That bond eliminates the jacket-core separation that can strip energy away from a terminal impact and reduce penetration depth. The result is a bullet that expands while retaining the mass needed to drive through tissue and bone rather than shedding material on the surface.

The nose is skived before loading—meaning shallow cuts are made into the tip to predetermine where and how the petals fold back on impact. That pre-programming keeps expansion consistent across a range of impact velocities, which matters when the shot distance varies from one hunt to the next. Minimum terminal velocity is rated at 1,900 fps, giving the 180-grain projectile a practical effective range that covers most field situations a .308 hunter is likely to encounter.

The boat-tail base geometry aids in-flight stability over distance and eases the bullet’s transition from the case neck into the rifling. Brass cases are boxer-primed and reloadable for handloaders who want to reclaim spent brass. Each box contains 20 rounds.
