Description

Installing or removing a Geissele handguard requires a dedicated barrel nut wrench — the geometry of Geissele’s proprietary barrel nuts simply will not cooperate with a standard armorers wrench. This tool is the purpose-built solution, machined from steel and finished with a phosphate coating that resists corrosion and handles the abuse of shop use without wearing down contact surfaces over time. It also mates correctly with mil-spec AR-15 and M4 barrel nuts, so it pulls double duty if you are working across multiple platforms.

The drive slot accepts a standard half-inch square torque wrench drive, which matters because proper barrel nut torque on an AR-pattern rifle is not a hand-feel estimate — it needs to be set to spec to ensure the handguard indexes correctly and gas tube alignment is maintained through the receiver block. A snug, no-slop fit in that drive hole means torque readings at the handle transfer accurately to the nut rather than being absorbed by tool flex or play.

This is a single-purpose tool, and that is a reasonable trade-off. It takes up almost no drawer space, it is straightforward to reach for when you need it, and the construction is substantial enough that it will not deform under the torque values involved in a typical AR build. If you run Geissele rails or expect to work on them for others, keeping this wrench on hand avoids the improvisation that damages barrel nut splines and creates alignment headaches downstream.
