Description

The Geissele Super 42 is a buffer spring and buffer combo designed for AR-15 carbines where reliability under hard use is the priority. The spring draws its architecture from the German MG42’s recoil spring: three independent wire strands braided together rather than a single coiled wire. That arrangement matters because each strand can flex against the others, absorbing energy and breaking up the harmonic resonance that causes standard single-wire springs to bounce and bind during the cycling sequence. The result is a more consistent, controlled bolt carrier ride and a longer service life for the spring itself.

This kit pairs that braided spring with an H3 buffer, which is the heaviest of the three carbine buffer weights Geissele offers in this line. The additional mass slows bolt carrier velocity at the cost of some cycling energy, which is useful when running a rifle that overgasses or when shooting from positions that put irregular support on the receiver. The trade-off is that the H3 demands a cartridge generating enough pressure to push the heavier assembly reliably — which is why Geissele does not recommend this combination with 300 Blackout subsonic ammunition, where gas pressure may be insufficient to cycle the action consistently.

Compatibility is limited to AR-15 carbine-length receiver extensions. The spring is dimensioned for that tube geometry and will not seat or function correctly in a rifle-length or A5-length extension. If your carbine is running a standard mil-spec tube, this kit drops in without modification.
