GEISSELE SUPER GAS BLOCK

Description

The Geissele Super Gas Block is a low-profile unit built for AR-15 and M4-pattern rifles running free-floating handguards, where a standard front sight base or full-height gas block would prevent the handguard from seating flush against the upper receiver. Dropping to a low-profile block is what makes that configuration possible, and the SGB is machined to fit closely around the 0.750-inch diameter mounting boss common on most M4 carbines and AR-15 barrels, so there is no slop in the fit.

The block is precision investment cast from 17-4 precipitation hardening stainless steel rather than a softer alloy, which matters in a component that cycles under heat and gas pressure with every shot. The Black Nitride surface treatment adds a layer of corrosion resistance without meaningfully changing the block’s dimensions. Geissele finishes this in the USA.

Retention is handled two ways. Standard set-screw installation is covered in the included instructions, but Geissele also details what they call their Bombproof Installation, which uses an included coil pin to mechanically lock the block to the barrel so it cannot rotate or walk forward under sustained fire. For shooters running Geissele CHF barrels specifically, a stainless dowel pin is also included to index the gas port precisely during installation, removing the guesswork from alignment. That kind of retention system is worth understanding before you buy: a gas block that shifts even slightly will cause feeding malfunctions or stop the rifle from cycling altogether, so the mechanical lock is a meaningful practical benefit rather than a marketing point.
