Description
Replacing a gas tube is one of those jobs that looks simple until a cheap part causes persistent cycling problems. Bootleg’s mid-length gas tube for the AR-15 is built from stainless steel with a black finish, giving it corrosion resistance without the added maintenance that bare stainless demands in field conditions.
The mid-length gas system sits farther down the barrel than a carbine-length setup, which means the bolt carrier is still traveling at lower pressure when the gas port is uncovered. That translates to a softer, more progressive push against the bolt carrier group rather than the sharp spike a carbine system produces. The practical result is a recoil impulse that is easier to manage during rapid fire and less wear on the carrier over time — a meaningful consideration if you run the rifle hard.
A roll pin is included, so you have everything needed for a straightforward drop-in installation without a separate trip to the parts bin. The tube is sized for AR-15 pattern rifles and fits the standard gas block journal at the mid-length position.
This is a sensible choice when a build or a rebuild calls for a quality replacement that matches the geometry of the original mid-length design without requiring any modification to the gas block or upper receiver.
