The 6mm ARC was developed in response to a U.S. Department of Defense requirement for a multipurpose combat rifle cartridge, and Hornady’s Match loading takes that foundation in a precision direction. The 108-grain ELD-M bullet is built around a Heat Shield tip that resists aerodynamic deformation in flight — a meaningful concern at the velocities and distances where match shooters spend most of their time. Standard polymer tips can soften and deform as they travel downrange, which shifts the ballistic coefficient mid-flight and opens up groups. The ELD-M tip holds its shape, keeping the published BC honest from muzzle to target.
The 6mm ARC was engineered specifically to extract high performance from the AR-15 platform without requiring a larger action or heavier system. That means shooters running AR-15 pattern rifles in 6mm ARC get ballistic capability that previously demanded a heavier, larger-format rifle. The cartridge also fits short-action and micro-action bolt guns, so the same ammunition works across platforms depending on what a shooter is running.
At 108 grains, the ELD-M is on the heavier end of what the 6mm ARC is typically loaded with, which generally means a higher ballistic coefficient and better wind resistance at distance — relevant for any precision or long-range target work where wind calls matter. Muzzle velocity is rated at 2,750 fps, giving the bullet enough initial speed to stay supersonic well into practical shooting distances. This loading is not designed around terminal expansion for hunting; the ELD-M is a match bullet, optimized for accuracy and consistency over raw energy transfer. Boxes are sold in 20-round increments, with 200-round case quantities available.
