Description

The KAK Industry K-SPEC is a bolt carrier designed for AR-15 shooters who want a single component that handles suppressed and unsuppressed fire without requiring any adjustment to the gas or buffer system between the two. Most carriers present a trade-off: tune the gas system for suppressed use and the rifle may run sluggish unsuppressed, or vice versa. The K-SPEC addresses that by rerouting where and how gas escapes the carrier rather than asking you to change anything upstream.

The downward gas vents are the most consequential change from a standard carrier. On a conventional design, gas relief ports open toward the ejection port side of the receiver, directing fouling and hot gas back toward the shooter’s face. KAK relocated those ports to the underside of the carrier, venting into the magazine feed lip channels instead. The result is a meaningful reduction in the gas and debris that reaches the shooter when running a suppressor. Two additional relief ports at the bottom of the carrier serve a structural safety function in the event of a case head separation. When paired with a suppressor, the downward venting also reduces peak decibel report compared to side-venting designs — KAK has published direct comparative testing on this.

The sand cutter rail geometry addresses a different failure mode. Angled cuts along the carrier rails are designed to push fouling, grit, and suppressor carbon into areas that don’t bear against the receiver walls, keeping the surfaces that actually matter clean enough to cycle reliably in harsh conditions. The carrier is machined to the M16 full-auto profile and ships with the gas key installed. It is chrome lined with a phosphate finish and is cross-compatible with any direct impingement AR-15 bolt.
