Daniel Defense built this complete bolt carrier group around materials and processes that address the most common failure points in AR-platform cycling. The carrier is machined from 8620 steel, a grade chosen for its combination of surface hardness and a tough core — the same basic philosophy applied to automotive gears and other components that must resist both wear and shock loading. A heavy phosphate coating protects the exterior, while the interior bore is chrome lined to resist fouling buildup and corrosion over extended round counts without cleaning.
The bolt itself is machined from Carpenter 158 steel, the material specified in the original military bolt drawings for its fatigue resistance under repeated locking and unlocking forces. Each bolt is high-pressure tested and magnetic particle inspected before leaving the factory, which identifies subsurface stress fractures that visual inspection misses entirely. Shot peening further improves fatigue life by inducing compressive stress at the surface, where cracks would otherwise initiate. The extractor includes a booster insert, which increases tension on the case rim to maintain reliable extraction as the extractor spring wears or when running suppressed generates elevated back-pressure.
The gas key is properly staked — meaning the fasteners are mechanically deformed into the carrier to prevent loosening under heat and vibration — rather than relying on thread adhesive alone. This BCG is rated for full-auto fire and runs an M16 profile carrier, compatible with both 5.56 NATO and 300 Blackout upper assemblies. It ships assembled and ready to drop into any mil-spec AR-15 lower and upper combination. Weight is 11 ounces. Made in the USA.
