MDT’s AICS-pattern metal magazine is built for precision rifle shooters running .308 Win, 7.62 NATO, or the 6.5 Creedmoor family in a chassis or bottom metal system that accepts the AICS footprint. The construction starts with high-strength steel and a nitride treatment, then Cerakote Elite is applied inside and out — the internal coating matters as much as the external because it reduces friction along the feed path and resists the corrosion that can develop when a magazine sits loaded for extended periods.

The standout engineering choice here is the Double Stack to Single Feed (DSSF) transition. Most double-stack magazines reach their single-feed point higher in the body, which drives overall magazine height up. MDT moves that transition lower, cutting external length to 3.055 inches — a meaningful difference when a chassis has tight clearances or when you are shooting from a supported position and want the magazine to sit closer to the rifle’s natural balance point.

This version ships without a front binder plate, which raises the maximum cartridge overall length the magazine will accept to 2.960 inches — useful for handloaded ammunition pushed to longer COAL. The trade-off is real: without the binder plate guiding cartridges away from the feed ramp, some actions including the Remington 700 and Savage 10/11 may require receiver modification at the base of the feed ramp to prevent bullet tips from catching. That is a one-time gunsmithing consideration, not a recurring limitation, but it is worth factoring in before choosing this variant over the binder-plate version. Shooters running MDT chassis systems or other designs with recessed feed ramps will generally have fewer compatibility concerns.
