Description
The Magpul MOE SL mid-length handguard in Flat Dark Earth is built for shooters running a standard delta-ring AR-15 who want a slimmer grip profile and direct accessory mounting without committing to a free-float conversion. It drops in using the existing delta-ring assembly, which means no barrel nut swap, no torque specs to chase, and no permanent changes to the upper receiver.
The mid-length fitment matters here beyond just covering more of the barrel. Mid-length handguards spread the support hand further forward than a carbine-length unit, which shifts the balance point slightly and gives shooters with longer arms a more natural hold without adding bulk. The MOE SL takes that further with a noticeably trimmer circumference than the standard MOE, making it easier to wrap a hand around fully and to index the same way every time.
M-LOK slots at the 3, 6, and 9-o’clock positions allow lights, vertical grips, or rail sections to mount directly to the handguard body rather than clamping onto a Picatinny strip. Extended front and side lips sit between the support hand and the heat that builds near the front sight assembly during sustained fire, a practical detail on any rifle that sees regular range use. The shell is reinforced polymer with a riveted aluminum heat shield inside.
One compatibility point worth knowing before ordering: this handguard requires a round front retaining cap and a standard A2-pattern front sight base. Rifles fitted with a triangular retaining cap or an aftermarket gas block in place of the A2 assembly will need those components addressed first. Strip any factory sling swivel from the A2 before installation.
