Description
The Magpul MOE SL is a carbine-length, drop-in handguard built for AR-15 and M4 platforms running a carbine-length gas system with an A2 front sight assembly. It is a straightforward, no-compromise replacement for the factory two-piece plastic handguard — the kind of upgrade that makes sense when you want M-LOK capability without committing to a free-float rail system or the machining costs that come with one.
Construction is reinforced, heat-resistant polymer with an integral riveted aluminum heat shield. The polymer keeps weight low and avoids the thermal conductivity of an aluminum rail, while the internal heat shield handles the sustained heat that bleeds off a hot barrel during extended firing. The slim profile is a deliberate design choice: it keeps the outside diameter narrow enough to get a full hand around the handguard rather than bridging over a chunky rail.
M-LOK slots run at the two, six, and ten o’clock positions, giving you mounting points for lights, a sling attachment, a grip, or a short section of Picatinny rail wherever you actually need it — rather than carrying a full quad-rail you only use a fraction of. The large front extension and lower lip push the usable grip surface forward and provide some protection from the heat radiating off the front sight assembly.
Installation uses the existing delta ring and the round front retaining cap that comes with the A2 front sight — no barrel nut wrench required. It is not compatible with piston-operated AR platforms or non-A2 gas blocks, and any factory sling swivel on the front sight assembly will need to come off before fitting.
