Description

The Magpul STR is a direct replacement for the standard carbine buttstock on AR-15 and M4 platform rifles running a mil-spec receiver extension tube. It shares its core architecture with Magpul’s CTR stock — the same streamlined A-frame profile and the same ambidextrous release latch shielded against accidental activation — but adds something the CTR lacks: a pair of water-resistant storage tubes built into the cheek weld area. Each tube runs along one side of the stock and holds up to two CR123A or AA batteries, accessible from the rear regardless of which of the six length-of-pull positions the stock is set to. The tubes sit flush rather than protruding outward, so they do not change the stock’s snag-resistant profile in any meaningful way.

The friction lock system is worth understanding on its own terms. The release latch handles gross adjustment, but the supplemental friction lock engages independently to take play out of the stock once it is set. Carbine stocks on mil-spec tubes can develop wobble over time as components wear; the friction lock works against that tendency and keeps the stock from shifting under recoil or during movement. The sloping cheek weld provides a wider contact surface than a flat shelf would, which distributes pressure more evenly and accommodates shooters who cant the rifle slightly under magnified optics.

Sling mounting is handled through an integral reversible QD socket at the rear — sized for push-button swivels up to 1.5 inches — plus two footman’s loops for traditional sling hardware. The 0.30-inch rubber butt-pad is replaceable and textured to hold position against soft body armor. Reinforced polymer construction throughout. Made in the USA.
