Description
The Magpul X-22 Backpacker Forend is built specifically for hunters and backpackers who run a Ruger 10/22 Takedown paired with the X-22 Backpacker Stock (MAG808). The premise is simple: if you’re carrying a takedown rifle because packability matters, the forend that reunites the two halves should be as purposeful as the rest of the platform.
The core engineering here is the locking interface. Rather than leaving the separated barrel assembly loose in a bag or case, the forend positively secures it to the stock body during transport. That means less rattle, less chance of finish damage, and a faster, more confident reassembly when you reach camp or a shooting position.
Where this forend adds real utility for shooters who own multiple barrel setups is in its broad compatibility window — it accepts factory and aftermarket barrels up to 0.920 inches in outer diameter, covering standard profiles through bull barrels without requiring a dedicated forend for each. If you want to swap between a threaded barrel for suppressor use and a standard hunting barrel, you can run a single forend across both rather than buying two.
Construction is reinforced polymer, which keeps the weight low enough that it doesn’t undermine the purpose of a backpacking rifle. An optional optic mount, the X-22 Backpacker Optic Mount (MAG799), indexes directly to this forend if you want a dedicated glass setup that travels with the barrel half rather than staying on the stock. The OD Green finish matches the rest of the Backpacker palette and is made in the USA.
