Description

The Magpul X-22 Backpacker stock is built around a specific problem: getting a capable rimfire rifle into the backcountry without dedicating a rifle-length case to it. It fits the Ruger 10/22 Takedown platform, which already splits into two sections at the push of a button, and the Backpacker takes that further by incorporating a locking interface that secures the barrel assembly to the receiver during transit — so the disassembled rifle travels as a self-contained unit rather than two loose halves rattling around a pack.

The forend and buttstock nest together when separated from the action, keeping the overall package tight enough to slip into a standard pack compartment alongside camping gear. Once you reach camp, the rifle goes back together without tools. The drop-in fit requires no gunsmithing and is compatible with all Ruger 10/22 Takedown receivers, as well as the Tactical Solutions SBX barrel for those running that option.

Storage is worked into the design rather than added as an afterthought. The hinged compartment in the buttstock holds up to three 10-round magazines, and the grip section provides a separate cavity for small tools or accessories. The MOE SL buttpad is rubber and non-slip, which matters when a lightweight rimfire stock offers less mass to absorb any shift during a shot. Sling attachment is handled through optional QD mounting points rather than fixed swivel studs, which gives more flexibility in how the rifle carries on a long approach. Construction is reinforced polymer throughout, and the stock is made in the USA. The Olive Drab Green finish is Magpul’s own ODG, suited to field use without standing out.
