The Patriot Super Bantam is Mossberg’s answer to a practical problem: bolt-action hunting rifles are built around an average adult frame, and that leaves younger hunters, smaller-statured shooters, and anyone with a shorter reach fighting the gun rather than using it. The Super Bantam addresses this with a synthetic stock built around a reduced length of pull, and a removable spacer that lets the stock be lengthened as the shooter grows — making this a rifle that can serve through multiple seasons rather than being outgrown after one.
The chambering choice matters here. The .350 Legend was designed from the outset around straight-walled cartridge regulations common in several Midwestern states, but it also produces moderate recoil for its bore diameter, which pairs well with a rifle intended for developing shooters. The 1-in-16 twist rate is matched to the cartridge’s typical bullet weights, stabilizing the projectiles the .350 Legend was designed around without requiring the shooter to hunt for specialty ammunition.
The barrel is fluted, which removes material between the locking recesses to reduce weight without sacrificing the stiffness a hunting barrel needs to maintain point of impact after field carry. The bolt is spiral-fluted as well, and the trigger is user-adjustable — a meaningful feature on a youth-oriented platform, since trigger pull weight has a direct effect on whether a smaller-framed shooter can break the shot cleanly without disturbing their sight picture. The rifle ships with a scope already mounted, so it can reach the field with minimal additional investment.
