You stay aware of your surroundings right up until the moment protection is needed, and the transition is fast enough to be automatic in practice.

The advanced Mission Audio Profiles feature allows the headset to be tuned to specific acoustic environments, adjusting how ambient sound is processed rather than applying a single fixed response to every situation. In an urban interior the acoustic demands are different from open terrain, and the MAP system is designed to account for that.
