Description
The Reptilia DOT Mount is built for shooters running an Aimpoint ACRO P-1, ACRO P-2, or Steiner MPS on a standard M1913 Picatinny rail who want a mount that stays out of the way and stays put. The 1.93-inch optical axis height is sized for use with a chin-weld or stock with a higher comb, keeping the dot co-witnessed or positioned where a modern fighting-rifle cheek weld puts the eye naturally — not an arbitrary number, but one that suits the ergonomics of the AR platform and similar rifles with adjustable or fixed stocks at field height.
The body is machined from billet 7075-T6 aluminum, a grade chosen for its strength-to-weight ratio — it resists deformation under recoil without adding unnecessary mass to the top rail. The Milspec Type III hard anodize over that aluminum is not a cosmetic step; it produces a surface that is significantly harder than the base alloy, which matters where the clamp interfaces with the rail and where the optic footprint contacts the mount. The clamp itself uses a spring-loaded nitrided steel mechanism, which keeps consistent preload on the rail cross-section and reduces the chance of the mount shifting during repeated use or under hard handling. Nitriding the steel clamp raises its surface hardness and corrosion resistance without adding thickness, keeping the overall profile slim. The low-profile, anti-snag geometry means there are no protruding fastener heads or ledges to catch on gear during a draw or transition. Installation requires no special tooling beyond a torque wrench to hit proper spec on the clamp screw.
