The Rix Optics Storm S3R is a compact thermal riflescope aimed at hunters who need a capable, feature-rich unit without committing to a high-end price point. It weighs just one pound, which means it handles comfortably as a handheld scanner as well as a mounted optic — a practical advantage when you are working terrain before settling into a shooting position.

The 384×288 thermal sensor delivers meaningful image quality, and Rix’s Resolution Enhanced Technology (RET) uses AI-based processing to extract additional detail from the raw sensor output, producing a cleaner picture than the pixel count alone would suggest. The NETD rating of less than 25 mK indicates how small a temperature difference the sensor can distinguish, which translates directly to how clearly a warm animal stands out from its background in marginal conditions.

The built-in laser rangefinder reaches out to 1,312 yards with ±1 meter precision and connects to a free Rix ballistic calculator, giving you a complete distance-to-firing-solution workflow without adding an external module. The independent Picture-in-Picture zoom window lets you pull in a magnified view of the target zone while the full field of view stays visible around it — useful when you need to confirm a target before committing. The Reticle Tracking Correction (RTC) function automatically walks the zero reticle back toward center after a zeroing session, which keeps your usable field of view from shifting off axis. The scope runs on a removable 18650 battery with a 90-degree quick-detach cap, so swapping power in the field requires no tools and very little time.
