Description

Suppressor pistons are consumable interface parts — they take the direct stress of repeated installation and removal so the suppressor’s host threads do not. Rugged Suppressors’ OP007 is designed for use with the Obsidian 45, letting you move that suppressor between different host weapons by swapping the piston rather than buying a dedicated can for each platform.

The piston is machined from 17-4 stainless steel and then heat treated, a process that significantly raises the material’s hardness and tensile strength compared to annealed stainless — relevant here because the piston sits at the muzzle face and absorbs both mechanical torque and the thermal and pressure cycling of every round fired. The copper finish is more than cosmetic; it provides a degree of corrosion resistance and makes it straightforward to identify this piston at a glance when you have multiple thread-pitch variants in a range bag.

The non-slotted body is the meaningful design distinction. Slotted pistons vent propellant gas radially, which can allow blowback to work its way rearward toward the action and the shooter. A non-slotted piston maintains a continuous, uninterrupted gas seal around the full circumference of the bore, directing gas forward through the suppressor rather than allowing it to escape laterally. For carbine and subgun hosts — where the action is closer to the shooter’s face and gas management matters more — that sealed geometry makes a practical difference in how the gun runs and how much fouling accumulates around the muzzle junction. The 9/16×24 thread pattern matches common pistol-caliber and subgun host configurations.
