Description
Rugged Suppressors’ Obsidian Piston (OP005) is the component that lets you move an Obsidian 45 or Obsidian 9 suppressor between tilting-barrel pistol hosts without re-timing or re-indexing a fixed mount. Each piston is threaded to a specific pitch so it engages the host barrel directly, allowing the suppressor to travel with the slide through its operating cycle rather than fighting it.
The M16x1 right-hand thread pitch on this piston matches a widely used metric thread standard found on many pistol barrels, so before ordering it is worth confirming your barrel is cut to that specification rather than a different metric or imperial pitch.
Where some pistons use a slotted circumference to vent gas, the OP005 uses a non-slotted design that maintains a complete 360-degree seal around the bore. That unbroken seal keeps propellant gas from escaping forward through the piston interface, which reduces the blowback gas the shooter would otherwise feel at the face and hands during rapid fire. For sustained range work or suppressed subgun use, that difference in felt comfort adds up over a session.
The piston is machined from 17-4 stainless steel and heat treated, a precipitation-hardening alloy chosen for its ability to hold dimensional stability under the repeated heat and pressure cycles that a suppressor piston endures. If you are mounting to a fixed-barrel platform rather than a tilting-barrel pistol, a separate fixed barrel spacer is required — the piston alone is not sufficient for that configuration.
