Description
SilencerCo’s AC59 piston is a direct replacement and upgrade component designed to mate 9mm-threaded handgun barrels to the Osprey and Octane suppressor families. Pistons are the mechanical interface between your host firearm and the suppressor body: the barrel threads into the piston, and the piston locks into the suppressor’s mount. Because different suppressors use different piston geometries, having the correct piston for your specific can is what determines whether the suppressor runs smoothly and seals properly at the bore.
The XL designation on the 1/2″-28 thread pattern indicates an extended length compared to a standard piston, which provides additional thread engagement on barrels where a shorter piston would leave insufficient contact. This matters practically on hosts where the barrel’s threaded section is recessed or where a more secure, rattle-free lockup is needed during extended use.
The piston is machined from 17-4 stainless steel, a precipitation-hardened alloy chosen for its resistance to the heat, carbon fouling, and moisture that accumulates at the suppressor-to-barrel junction during sustained fire. The interchangeable piston design that SilencerCo built into the Osprey and Octane platforms means you can run a single suppressor across multiple host firearms by swapping pistons rather than buying a dedicated can for each gun — the AC59 handles the 9mm side of that equation.
Installation requires no tools beyond what’s needed to thread the piston onto the barrel; the suppressor then attaches to the piston in the same manner as the original configuration. If you’re building out a suppressed 9mm pistol setup around either of these two SilencerCo platforms, this is the component that completes the connection.
