Description

The Glock 43X and 48 are built around a compact, single-stack frame, and the factory plastic magazine catch is one of the first components that limits what those pistols can do. Shield Arms engineered this steel replacement specifically to work with their S15 magazines, which stack 15 rounds in a frame otherwise sized for ten. Steel engaging steel gives the S15 a positive lock and reliable drop-free release that the plastic OEM catch cannot consistently provide with those magazines.

The button is chamfered and textured, so it takes less deliberate effort to find and actuate under stress, and the lower profile keeps it from snagging on a cover garment during a draw. The catch is also ambidextrous, meaning it functions from either side without modification. Both first- and second-generation S15 magazines are supported, which matters if you are mixing magazine generations across your carry and training supply.

A note on compatibility: the catch will work with factory Glock plastic magazines, but Shield Arms advises against that pairing for regular use. Steel riding against plastic accelerates wear on the OEM magazines, and they may not drop free cleanly. The practical guidance is to run steel with steel — meaning the S15 — and keep plastic OEM magazines for contexts where you are not depending on the steel catch.
