Description
The P226X Legion SAO is built for the shooter who wants a competition-capable, hammer-fired pistol without chasing aftermarket parts to get there. SIG took the proven P226 frame geometry and paired it with an X-Series grip profile — taller, with more aggressive front strap checkering and G10 Legion grip panels — so the gun sits lower in the hand and gives a more consistent purchase across a full firing grip. That matters on a full-size all-metal pistol, where controlling muzzle rise between shots depends more on your hold than any mechanical trick.
The single-action-only setup changes the character of the trigger entirely compared to a traditional DA/SA P226. Because the hammer is cocked by the slide during the firing cycle, the trigger has one job: releasing the hammer. The AX1 adjustable trigger takes advantage of that arrangement with a short, consistent break that can be tuned to the shooter’s preference — something a DA/SA design cannot offer without a separate action job. The tradeoff is that this variant requires the manual safety for safe carry with a cocked hammer, which is a deliberate design choice and one that 1911 shooters will find immediately familiar.
The 4.4-inch match-grade bull barrel carries a target crown, which protects the muzzle and contributes to consistent bullet exit. The slide is optic-ready via SIG’s SIG-LOC Pro mounting system, compatible with ROMEO1Pro, ROMEO2, DeltaPoint Pro, and RMR footprints, and the factory X-Ray3 day/night sights work as a standalone solution if you prefer to run irons. Three 18-round steel magazines are included, and the alloy frame in Legion Gray Cerakote absorbs recoil in a way that helps the sights return to the target quickly for follow-up shots.
