The P238 is Sig Sauer’s micro-compact carry pistol built around the single-action 1911 pattern, scaled down to pocket and holster size for everyday concealed carry. If you already shoot a 1911 and want a deep-cover option that works from the same manual of arms — thumb the safety off, press the trigger — the P238 lets you carry that muscle memory into a much smaller package without relearning your draw.

Single-action-only means the hammer must be cocked before the trigger does anything, which is exactly what the manual thumb safety is there for. Carried cocked and locked, the trigger is short and consistent on every shot, rather than the long, stacking pull you get from double-action designs. That predictability matters most at close range under stress, which is where a pistol this size is most likely to be used.

The frame is aluminum alloy, which keeps weight down without sacrificing the rigid feel that helps manage the .380 ACP’s recoil at this barrel length. The slide receives a Rainbow Titanium coating — a process that produces an iridescent, spectrum-shift finish rather than a flat color — and the edges along the slide have been rounded and beveled so the pistol clears a cover garment cleanly rather than catching fabric on the draw. Rosewood grip panels complete the package on the outside.

SIGLITE night sights are the practical piece of the specification worth dwelling on: tritium-illuminated front and rear that don’t require a separate light source to pick up a sight picture in low light, which is the condition most relevant to the pistol’s intended role.
