Description

The SilencerCo AC29 piston is a replacement and alternate-host component for shooters running an Osprey or Octane suppressor on a .45 ACP pistol with a threaded barrel. Its purpose is practical: suppressors designed for semi-automatic pistols need a Nielsen device — a mechanism that uses the piston to allow the barrel to move rearward and unlock the slide during the firing cycle. Without it, many tilting-barrel pistol designs will not cycle reliably with a suppressor attached. This piston is that device’s working core.

SilencerCo machines the AC29 from 17-4 stainless steel and then heat-treats it, which gives the material significantly higher yield strength than annealed stainless and helps it resist the repeated impact loads of a Nielsen device over long round counts. The M16x1 right-hand thread pattern is what attaches the piston to your threaded barrel, and the suppressor body then threads onto the piston’s opposing end. If your application is a fixed-barrel platform — a pistol-caliber carbine or a fixed-barrel host — SilencerCo offers a separate Fixed Barrel Spacer that replaces the piston for those setups; the AC29 itself is intended for tilting-barrel semi-automatic pistols.

Beyond the Osprey and Octane lines, this piston is also compatible with several other SilencerCo suppressor families, including the Omega, K Series, and Hybrid 46, giving it broader utility if your suppressor inventory grows. Swapping pistons between host firearms is straightforward, which makes the AC29 a practical addition for anyone sharing one of those suppressors across multiple .45 ACP hosts.
