Description
The Safariland 578 GLS Pro-Fit is an outside-the-waistband holster built around a single retention principle: the Grip Locking System. Rather than a thumb-actuated hood or a rotating lever, the GLS releases the firearm when the shooter’s middle finger applies rearward pressure at the trigger guard during the draw stroke. This means the motion that releases the gun is the same motion that grips it, so there is no separate manual step to learn or rehearse. Reholstering is deliberate and audible, giving a clear confirmation of retention without requiring the shooter to look down.
The 578 is designed around a family of compact-frame pistols sized similarly to the Glock 19 and 23, which means it accommodates a broad range of compact handguns across multiple manufacturers without requiring a model-specific shell. The trade-off inherent in a Pro-Fit design is that the fit is optimized for a frame profile rather than a single pistol, so shooters who run aftermarket slides, heavily modified trigger guards, or certain suppressor-height sights should verify fitment before committing. The holster body is constructed from SafariSeven, a proprietary nylon blend that Safariland uses specifically because it does not permanently deform under sustained pressure the way standard polymer can, which helps the mouth stay open for single-handed reholstering.
This version ships in Flat Dark Earth with a right-hand draw orientation. It includes both a paddle attachment and a belt loop, so the carry platform can be swapped without purchasing a separate mount. Backed by Safariland’s limited lifetime warranty.
