Description
The Safariland Model 773 is a competition-oriented single-magazine pouch built for shooters who need consistent, repeatable draws under time pressure. Where an open-top pouch leaves the magazine exposed to bumps and jostling, the 773 adds a closed front wall that keeps the magazine seated without slowing the draw — a practical middle ground between retention and speed.
Retention is set through two pairs of tension screws threaded through rollers, a system that distributes clamping pressure more evenly than a single-screw design and allows very fine adjustment. Once set, the tension holds across a full day of use without drifting. The belt loop rotates through 90 degrees of adjustment, so you can dial in cant to match your draw stroke rather than adapting your technique to a fixed angle. The 1.5-inch loop fits standard competition and duty belts without modification.
The pouch is constructed from Kydex with an STX Tactical finish, which gives the exterior a matte, non-reflective texture while keeping the shell rigid enough to re-holster one-handed. The built-up internal channel creates clearance for the bullet nose during the draw, reducing the chance of a magazine hanging up on the way out. Safariland also offers a Levitation System variant of this design — the 5773 — for those who prefer a forward-set carry position; the 773 is the standard belt-loop configuration. Sized for double-stack 9mm and .40 S&W pistols, specifically the Glock 17, and set up for right-hand draw.
