The Safariland Species is an inside-the-waistband holster built around the Sig Sauer P365XL, designed for everyday carry where a compact, low-profile package matters. Rather than adapting a platform meant for outside-the-waistband use, Safariland engineered the Species specifically for IWB from the ground up, which keeps the overall footprint smaller and reduces printing under a cover garment.

The shell is formed from Boltaron, a thermoplastic material Safariland uses across several of their duty-grade holster lines. It holds its shape under heat and pressure better than softer materials, which matters for consistent one-handed re-holstering—you are not collapsing the mouth of the holster when your hands are occupied. The exterior carries a Multicam laminate finish, giving the holster a textile-over-hard-shell construction rather than a plain polymer surface.

Retention is user-adjustable, so the draw weight can be dialed in to match the carrier’s preference without sending the holster back for modification. A single clip attaches the holster to the waistband; the minimalist mounting keeps bulk down while still providing enough stability for a consistent draw position. This version is cut for right-hand draw. The fitment is specific to the P365XL, so the trigger guard coverage and retention geometry are matched to that pistol’s dimensions rather than shared across a family of similar-sized handguns.
