Description

The Predator 4 is a hunting riflescope built around a practical magnification range that covers timber shots at the low end and open-country ranges at the top, without pushing the scope’s weight or size into territory that makes a field rifle feel front-heavy. Steiner manufactures it in Germany, and the construction reflects that: nitrogen-purged and sealed against moisture and temperature swings from -13°F to +145°F, so fogging and zero shift from rapid temperature changes are not concerns you need to carry into the field.

The E3 reticle lives in the second focal plane, which means the crosshair subtensions stay constant in size regardless of where you set the magnification. The practical consequence is that BDC holdover marks and the 5 and 10 MPH crosswind references are calibrated for a specific power setting — something to be aware of when using them for field estimates, but also the reason the reticle remains clean and readable at lower magnifications rather than becoming visually cluttered as it would in a first focal plane design. Illumination runs through 11 brightness steps split between day and night use, driven by a CR2032 battery and dialed in from the side of the scope.

The 50mm objective gathers enough light to keep the image usable into low-light shooting hours, while the 30mm main tube gives the internal adjustment system enough travel — 30 MOA in each direction — to accommodate a meaningful range of mounting heights and cartridge trajectories without burning through your windage and elevation before you start. Adjustments click in 1/4 MOA increments, which is fine enough for precise zeroing without becoming fiddly in cold-weather gloves. At under 24 ounces, it sits comfortably on a dedicated hunting rifle without upsetting the balance.
