Description

The Strike Industries Enhanced Castle Nut with QD is a direct replacement for the standard mil-spec castle nut and end plate combination on AR-platform rifles, built for shooters who want cleaner sling integration without adding bulk to the rear of the receiver extension. The castle nut itself has been lengthened compared to a standard unit, which means it engages more of the receiver extension’s threaded section and presents a cleaner, more finished profile once installed.

The real functional argument for this setup is where the QD socket sits. On a conventional flat end plate, the QD attachment point lands close to the pistol grip, which puts a mounted sling swivel right where the strong hand wraps during manipulations. Under stress or in confined spaces, that placement causes the swivel hardware to contact the webbing of the hand—an unpleasant and distracting problem. The extended end plate pushes the QD socket rearward, moving the attachment point away from that area entirely. The socket is centered on the plate rather than offset to one side, so it works equally well for right- and left-handed shooters without requiring a separate mount or adapter.

Installation requires a spanner wrench rather than a standard AR armorer’s wrench—the OTC 4791 is a commonly referenced option—and torque should not exceed 35 ft-lbs to avoid damaging the nut. A set screw design simplifies detent pin retention during assembly, which is a practical improvement over managing that small spring and pin with a standard end plate. The components are machined from steel and finished in black, and the combo fits mil-spec AR-15 and AR-10 buffer tubes. Note that fully collapsing the stock is not possible with the QD socket in use, as clearance at the first position is intentionally preserved for the swivel.
