The SureFire EDC2-DFT is built for anyone who needs a compact handheld light capable of reaching out far enough to identify what is at the edge of darkness before closing distance on it. That is a different task than lighting a campsite or navigating a hallway, and the design reflects it throughout.

The Turbo Series reflector is the core of what makes this light useful at range. A smooth parabolic reflector trades flood coverage for throw, concentrating output into a focused column rather than spreading it wide. At its peak, running on the included SF18650 rechargeable cell, the EDC2-DFT produces 100,000 candela — candela being the measure of beam intensity rather than total light output, and therefore the number that actually predicts how far the beam reaches. That translates to a beam distance of 632 meters. Dropping to two 123A primaries brings the candela figure down to 90,000 and shortens the beam distance to 600 meters, which is the trade-off inherent in running primary lithium versus a higher-capacity rechargeable cell.

Dual Fuel compatibility matters in practice because 123A batteries remain widely available when a rechargeable cell cannot be replenished. The SF18650 charges directly via the battery’s integrated micro-USB port, so no separate cradle is needed. A low output mode at 25 lumens extends runtime to 46.5 hours and handles close-range administrative tasks without destroying night-adapted vision. The body is machined from aerospace-grade aluminum and finished in Mil-Spec hard anodize, and the light meets the IPX7 standard, meaning it can be submerged in one meter of water for thirty minutes without damage. Knurling on the body and tailcap provides grip retention in wet conditions. The two-way clip accommodates either bezel-up or bezel-down carry depending on preference.
