Description
The SureFire SOCOM300-SPS is built specifically for .300 BLK/Whisper shooters running short-barreled carbines, particularly those with barrels of ten inches or less, where gas volume and projectile stability present the greatest challenge to consistent suppression. The can is optimized for both subsonic and supersonic ammunition, but its internal geometry is weighted toward subsonic performance: the V-shaped baffles are shaped to maximize dwell time and pressure reduction for slower, heavier projectiles, which translates to the deepest sound attenuation the platform offers.
One of the more consequential design choices here is the oversized bore diameter. Rather than running tight tolerances around the projectile path, SureFire opened the bore to reduce the probability of a baffle strike when shooting subsonic rounds from short barrels, where bullet stability can be less predictable. That decision involves a trade-off, but SureFire addresses the accuracy side of it through precision bore concentricity and tight machining of the baffle stack itself.
SureFire’s Total Signature Reduction technology targets more than sound. First-round flash, which occurs in most suppressors when residual oxygen in the tube ignites on the first shot, is suppressed here by design, with visible flash reduced by up to 99.5 percent. The internal venting system also reduces back pressure, which in a direct-impingement or short-stroke gas platform affects cyclic rate and the amount of hot gas returned to the shooter’s face.
Construction is Inconel alloy and stainless steel throughout, CNC laser-welded, with an Ionbond and Cerakote finish on the body. It mounts via SureFire’s Fast-Attach system, compatible with their full range of flash hiders, compensators, and WARCOMP muzzle devices, and comes with a FirstSpear MOLLE pouch and cleaning brush.
