The Wilson Combat 2-Shot Magazine Extension is built for Remington 870, 1100, and 1187 owners who want meaningful additional capacity without a complete platform change. Adding two rounds to a standard magazine tube is a straightforward mechanical upgrade, but the quality of the components that make up the extension determines whether that added capacity is reliable under pressure or simply theoretical.

Wilson Combat traces this line of magazine extensions through their Scattergun Technologies work, where the same design was put into service use by the U.S. Secret Service and the U.S. Border Patrol. The tube itself is machined from steel and given a parkerized finish, which provides corrosion resistance and a non-reflective matte surface without the dimensional build-up of some other coating processes. The parkerized surface also holds oil well, which matters on a part that sees friction during operation.

The extension ships with an extra-power magazine spring rather than a standard-rate replacement. A stronger spring reduces the likelihood of feeding hesitation as the magazine empties and the stack height drops — the point where spring-related failures most commonly occur. The included high-visibility follower makes it immediately apparent when the tube is empty, which matters during a fast reload or a chamber check under low light. A wave washer is also included for proper installation.

One installation note worth knowing before you order: the follower is not grooved to fit the detent found in newer 870 magazine tubes. Wilson Combat acknowledges this directly and notes that the detent in the tube can be filed down for proper fitment. This is a minor shop task but worth accounting for if your 870 is a more recent production model.
