The Yankee Hill Machine Nielsen Piston is the component that makes a tilting-barrel semi-automatic pistol cycle reliably when a suppressor is attached. Without it, the added mass and thread engagement of a suppressor can prevent the barrel from unlocking at the correct moment in the firing cycle, causing malfunctions. The Nielsen Piston — sometimes called a booster — solves this by using a spring-loaded piston assembly that decouples the suppressor’s inertia from the barrel’s unlocking motion, allowing the action to function as designed.

This version is threaded M13.5×1 LH, the left-hand metric pitch used on a range of European and domestic pistol barrels. Getting the thread pattern right matters: an incorrect piston simply will not seat properly or will introduce misalignment that defeats the purpose of the assembly. The piston is machined from heat-treated 17-4 stainless steel, a precipitation-hardened alloy chosen here for its resistance to the corrosive byproducts of sustained suppressed fire rather than for appearance alone. The silver finish is the natural result of that material, not a coating applied over a softer base.

Ten adjustment positions let you correct any point-of-impact shift introduced when the suppressor is mounted. Impact shift is a real effect with many host pistols, and having discrete, repeatable adjustment points means you can document a setting and return to it consistently rather than guessing. The piston is designed to work with YHM’s booster housing YHM-2055 and is also compatible with a broad range of popular pistol suppressors, making it a practical replacement or upgrade option whether you’re running YHM’s own cans or another manufacturer’s tube.
