Description

The Yankee Hill Machine Hinged Low Profile Gas Block exists to solve a specific installation problem: getting a new gas block onto a barrel when a pinned and welded muzzle device makes it impossible to slide one on from the front. The hinged design splits the block so it clamps around the barrel from the sides, letting you fit it in place without removing or disturbing the muzzle device. That makes it genuinely useful on builds where a conventional one-piece gas block simply cannot be installed.

Beyond solving that fitment challenge, the block keeps the same low-profile footprint that lets a handguard run cleanly over the gas system without the bulk of a standard front-sight block. That matters when you want to mount a rifle-length handguard on a carbine-length barrel — the reduced height clears the interior of most handguard tubes without requiring special clearance cuts or raised mounts.

Two pinch screws clamp the block to the barrel, driven with a 9/64-inch Allen wrench. YHM specifies a torque limit of 40 inch-pounds on those screws — a ceiling worth respecting, because over-torquing pinch-style fasteners on a steel barrel can distort the bore at the gas port and disrupt reliable cycling. The block itself is machined from 4140 steel with a Black Oxide finish, a pairing that keeps weight honest while resisting the heat and carbon that accumulate at the gas port over a high round count.
