Description

The Bushnell R7 1-8×24 is built around a specific hunting problem: thick cover, dark timber, and shots that develop fast at close range. At its lowest power setting it behaves like a true 1x optic, so both eyes can stay open and the reticle finds the target without hunting around the field of view. Pushing to 8x gives enough reach for clear-cuts and field edges without turning the scope into a dedicated long-range tool. That balance makes it a natural fit for Northwoods whitetail, Appalachian hardwoods, or any elk hunt where the trees are close and the shooting lanes are short.

The second focal plane placement means the reticle holds a consistent apparent size across the full magnification range, which keeps the aiming picture uncluttered at 1x. The trade-off is that MOA subtensions on the reticle are only accurate at a specific power — a detail worth understanding if you plan to use the hashmarks for ranging or holds rather than just aiming. For the fast, close-range work this scope is designed around, that trade-off is rarely a factor.

The fiber-illuminated center dot draws its light passively from ambient conditions rather than from a battery, which means it responds instantly to changes between dark timber and bright hillsides without manual adjustments between brightness settings.
