Description
The Banshee MK4 is CMMG’s compact AR-platform pistol built around the idea of a short, maneuverable package that still runs standard 5.56 NATO ammunition and accepts standard AR magazines. It suits shooters who want an AR-pattern firearm in a significantly reduced footprint — whether for home defense, vehicle carry, or range use where a full-length rifle is impractical.
The operating system uses CMMG’s radial delayed blowback action rather than a conventional direct-impingement or piston gas system. In a short-barreled platform like this one, gas pressure at the muzzle end of the cycle is higher than it would be with a longer barrel, and a standard blowback design would transmit that directly to the bolt carrier. The radial delay slows the unlocking sequence just long enough for pressure to drop to a safer level before the case extracts, which keeps felt recoil more consistent and reduces stress on brass. It is a meaningful engineering choice at this barrel length, not just a marketing distinction.
The handguard uses M-LOK attachment points, which keep the profile slim while giving the shooter a flat surface to grip and a standardized interface for lights, foregrips, or other accessories. The optics-ready top rail means there are no fixed sights competing for real estate — the expectation is that the shooter will mount a red dot or other compact optic suited to the distances this pistol is designed for. Ambidextrous controls, including the safety, mean left- and right-handed shooters can run the gun without reaching across the receiver. The Midnight Bronze Cerakote finish is applied over the aluminum receiver and provides corrosion resistance alongside its distinctive appearance.
