The CMMG Dissent Mk4 in .300 AAC Blackout is built for shooters who want a compact, hard-use AR pistol capable of running both supersonic and subsonic loads from a short platform. Where a longer barrel wrings more velocity from supersonic ammunition, the 6.5-inch tube is deliberately sized around .300 Blackout’s powder burn characteristics — the cartridge reaches acceptable velocities and consistent cycling well within that length, making the compact format a practical choice rather than a compromise. It also leaves the door open for a suppressor, where subsonic loads genuinely come into their own.

CMMG’s Dissent line uses the company’s Radial Delayed Blowback operating system rather than a conventional direct-impingement or piston arrangement. In this design, the bolt rotates slightly on firing and the radial locking surfaces slow the bolt’s rearward travel before the case fully unseats — a meaningful benefit at pistol-length, where short-dwell gas systems can otherwise produce sharper, more violent cycling. The result is a felt-recoil character that is softer and more controllable than straight blowback for the same platform size. The manual safety gives you a positive mechanical block without relying on trigger discipline alone, which matters in a compact format worn close to the body. Optics Ready configuration means the top rail is bare — no front post or rear sight to work around when you mount a red dot or magnified optic.
