Description
The Banshee MK47 is CMMG’s answer to a specific problem: how to run 7.62x39mm ammunition reliably through an AR-pattern platform without the feeding and extraction headaches that caliber conversion often introduces. Rather than adapting a standard AR lower, CMMG built the MK47 around a modified receiver designed to accept AK-pattern magazines directly, which means the geometry the round was engineered for is preserved rather than compromised. The result is a compact pistol that pairs the ergonomics and manual of arms of the AR with the magazine ecosystem and proven brass of the AK cartridge.
The 8-inch barrel shapes how this pistol behaves in practice. At that length, 7.62x39mm still generates useful velocity for the cartridge’s typical use cases, but the real trade-off is portability and handling in confined spaces against the increased muzzle blast and flash that come with a shorter tube. Shooters who want a range-capable platform that also packs down small are the natural audience here. The ambidextrous safety is a functional choice rather than a marketing one — with a strong-hand thumb on one side and a support-hand option on the other, it accommodates both left- and right-handed shooters without requiring any parts swap. The optics-ready top rail leaves the sight picture entirely to the shooter’s preference, whether that means a red dot for both-eyes-open work or a magnified optic for extended distances. The Midnight Bronze Cerakote finish is corrosion-resistant and identifiable, and it ships with one 30-round AK-pattern magazine.
