Description

The Colt Enhanced Patrol Rifle was built around the operational demands of law enforcement, and the design choices reflect that context directly. The direct-impingement gas system routes propellant gas back into the bolt carrier group rather than through a piston, which keeps the reciprocating mass lighter and contributes to the flat, straight-rearward recoil impulse the M4 pattern is known for. That geometry also means the recoil vector stays aligned with the shooter’s shoulder, which helps with target reacquisition during rapid fire.

The 1:7-inch rifling twist is optimized for heavier projectiles in the 5.56 NATO family, including M855 and SS109 loads, while still handling M193 reliably. Shooters who want to run 77-grain open-tip match or similar long-for-caliber bullets will find the twist rate cooperative. The chrome-lined bore resists fouling buildup under sustained fire and simplifies field cleaning.

Up front, the 13.5-inch Centurion Arms M-LOK handguard free-floats the barrel, meaning the handguard contacts the upper receiver rather than the barrel itself. Removing that contact point eliminates pressure variation from different grip styles or sling tension, which keeps point of impact consistent regardless of how the rifle is held. The M-LOK interface spans the full length of the handguard, giving the shooter flexibility in where lights, lasers, or a bipod are positioned without committing to a fixed rail layout.

Magpul MBUS Pro flip-up sights ship installed front and rear. Unlike the polymer MBUS, the Pro series uses steel construction throughout, which holds zero more reliably under hard use and resists heat from a suppressor or prolonged firing. The B5 Systems Bravo stock rounds out the package with a mil-spec buffer tube interface and multiple length-of-pull positions.
